 The marker on this tree indicates that it is a “monument” in a metes-and-bounds survey.


Rectangular Survey Sign, Oklahoma Turnpike

This sign on an Oklahoma Turnpike describes its principal meridian, evidence of Oklahoma’s using the Rectangular Survey System.  The “Indian Meridian” is the principal meridian and the sign marks the dividing line for the ranges east and west.


Survey Bench Mark, Yellowstone National Park

The marker on the top of the concrete pillar reflects the elevation of the brass cap on the top and serves as a bench mark for other surveys in the area.
